Biography

Colm O’Cinneide is a Professor of Constitutional Human Rights Law at University College London (UCL) and serves as Vice-Dean of Research in the Faculty of Laws. He holds degrees from University College Cork and University of Edinburgh. With a publication record in comparative constitutional and human rights law, O’Cinneide has acted as a specialist legal adviser to the UK Parliament’s Joint Committee on Human Rights and the Women & Equalities Committee. He was a member of the European Committee of Social Rights from 2006 to 2016, serving as Vice-President from 2010 to 2014, and has contributed to the academic advisory board of Blackstone Chambers in London. Nominated by the Government of Ireland as a candidate for the European Court of Human Rights in 2024, his work has been cited by the Court of Justice of the EU and the Irish Supreme Court.
