Biography

Professor Conchur O Bradaigh is an Honorary and Visiting Professor at the University of Edinburgh's School of Engineering. With a solid foundation in Mechanical Engineering, he graduated with a Bachelor's degree from the National University of Ireland, Galway in 1985, followed by a Master's of Engineering Science in 1987 from the same institution. He furthered his academic journey by obtaining his PhD in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Delaware, USA in 1991. Conchur has been recognized for his contributions to engineering, being a Fellow of the Institution of Mechanical Engineers and a Chartered Engineer. He is also an active member of Engineers Ireland and the American Society of Mechanical Engineers. Conchur's research interests are primarily in Mechanical Engineering, focusing on materials and processes, epitomized by his numerous awards such as the Sir Bernard Crossland Medal for Engineering Innovation in 2008 and the Donald Julius Groen Prize in 2012. He has also been involved in significant commercial initiatives, notably winning an Enterprise Ireland Commercialisation Award for successful licensing of the ATRP Project in 2007. Moreover, he was honored as a Fulbright Scholar at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in the United States in 1995.
