Conny Aerts conducts research in asteroseismology, a branch of astronomy that studies the internal structure of stars through their oscillations. This field utilizes methods similar to those employed by seismologists in studying the Earth's core. Aerts aims to accurately map the physical processes occurring in stellar cores, which are crucial for understanding the life cycles of stars. Asteroseismology has emerged as a discipline over the past fifteen years, with significant advancements made following successful analogous studies about the Sun, enabling precise determinations of solar activity. Aerts holds an endowed chair in Astrophysics and has made substantial contributions to the understanding of stellar dynamics through her research.
