Biography

Conor Kerr is a national award-winning Métis/Ukrainian writer based in amiskwaciwâskahikan (Edmonton). He was born in Saskatoon and raised at Buffalo Pound Lake and Drayton Valley. Conor is a member of the Métis Nation Alberta and comes from a family of Ukrainian settlers in Treaty 4 Territory. He is the author of the novel 'Avenue Champions' (2021), which won the 2022 RELIT Award and was shortlisted for the 2022 Amazon/Walrus Debut Novel Award, as well as longlisted for the 2022 Giller Prize. His upcoming novel 'Prairie Edge' (2024) is already shortlisted for the 2024 Giller Prize and the 2024 Writer’s Trust Atwood Gibson Fiction Award, in addition to winning the 2024 Crime Writers Canada novel award. Conor's poetry collections include 'Explosion Feathers' (2021) and 'Old Gods' (2023), the latter being shortlisted for the 2023 Governor General’s Award for Poetry. Conor continues to build on his literary career with forthcoming works like 'Beaver Hills Forever' (2025) and 'Duck Blind' (2027). His academic focus includes Creative Writing and Indigenous Literatures.
