Biography

Conrad Alexandrowicz holds a B.F.A. in Dance from York University and an M.F.A. in Directing from the University of Alberta. Originally from Toronto, he has performed with several Canadian dance companies, primarily Dancemakers, before starting to produce his own work, featuring original text. In 1987, he left the company to choreograph, direct, and perform independently. As a director, writer, and choreographer, he founded Wild Excursions Performance in 1995, serving as a vehicle for his creative ventures. Over the course of his professional career, he has created forty-five dance and physical theatre works, which have been presented in Canada, New York City, France, and the U.K. His work has received recognition through Jessie, Sterling, and Dora Awards. Specializing in the creation of interdisciplinary performance, he has invented works addressing central human journey issues. His expertise spans from dance-based performances with significant theatrical elements to innovative adaptations of standard play repertoires. He became a faculty member in the Department of Theatre at the University of Victoria in 2008, focusing on movement for actors in devised and physical theatre creation, and directing department productions. His academic writing has been published in reputable journals, and his latest monographs and co-edited collections address performance transformations in response to climate crises.
