Constantinos Christodoulides is an Associate Professor in the Radcliffe Department of Medicine at the University of Oxford. He is a Senior Clinical Research Fellow at the British Heart Foundation and an Honorary Consultant in Endocrinology and Diabetes. His research focuses on the molecular determinants of obesity and its relationship with type 2 diabetes and coronary heart disease. By adopting a multidisciplinary approach, he integrates human genetic and physiological studies with functional experiments involving human adipose cells, alongside Mendelian randomisation analyses and drug screening. His previous work identified key molecules in the WNT pathway, including LRP5 and RSPO3, as novel regulators of fat distribution in humans. Notably, LRP5 has been identified as a therapeutic target for osteoporosis. Currently, his research is exploring additional developmental signaling pathways such as TGF-beta, which have been implicated in modulating fat distribution and influencing the risk of developing type 2 diabetes and coronary heart disease.
