Cordt Zollfrank is a professor of Biogenic Polymers at the Technical University of Munich (TUM), focusing on the application of bioinspired synthetic methods for the development of innovative structural and functional materials. His key research area involves the formation of biogenic polymeric structures and the conversion of composite materials for biomedical applications. The fundamental chemical and physical transformation processes involved in these conversions are investigated at different levels of structural hierarchy. Zollfrank studied chemistry at TUM and later transitioned to the Institute of Wood Research at Ludwig Maximilian University of Munich (LMU), where he earned a PhD in forest science with a special emphasis on chemical aspects. He worked as a postdoctoral research fellow at the University of Erlangen-Nuremberg in the Department of Materials Science and Engineering, focusing on biomimetic material synthesis, from 2000 to 2002. In 2002, he became a group leader in bioengineered ceramics biomaterials research and acquired a postdoctoral teaching qualification (habilitation) in material sciences in 2009. He accepted his current professorship role at TUM Campus Straubing in October 2011.
