Biography

Corinde E. Wiers is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Psychiatry at the Perelman School of Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania. He earned his B.Sc. in Psychobiology and his M.Sc. in Psychology from the University of Amsterdam, where he graduated in 2008 and 2010, respectively. He completed his Ph.D. in Psychology at Freie Universität Berlin in 2014. His research focuses on cognitive neurobiological processes related to substance use disorders, particularly alcohol use disorder (AUD). The Wiers Lab employs PET and MRI neuroimaging techniques to explore how metabolic ketosis and brain energetics influence alcohol consumption and the mechanisms underlying addiction. The lab's work is supported by grants from the National Institutes of Health, including R21 and R33/R01 funding. Wiers is dedicated to understanding and developing interventions for AUD, contributing significantly to the field through his academic and applied research efforts.
