Biography

Corine Frischknecht holds a PhD in Sciences from the University of Geneva, specializing in earthquakes. Her doctoral thesis received the PLANAT prize awarded by the Swiss National Platform for Natural Hazards in 2000. From 1993 to 2002, she was a researcher with multidisciplinary Swiss teams focusing on earthquakes as part of the International Decade for Disaster Risk Reduction (IDNDR), a major risk management research program that included case studies in Guatemala and Ukraine. She served at the Rectorate of the University of Geneva and contributed to a multidisciplinary team that constructed the current Master of Advanced Studies in Humanitarian Action, hosted by the Geneva Centre of Humanitarian Studies, from 1995 to 2013. Between 2002 and 2009, she primarily engaged in teaching and research related to natural hazards within the Faculty of Sciences, where she coordinated thematic modules for the MAS in Humanitarian Action and supervised master's theses. In 2008, she became the Scientific Coordinator for the Specialized Certificate in Geological Climate-related Risk (CERG-C) and has been a senior lecturer in the Faculty of Sciences since 2015.
