Biography

Corliss Bean is an Associate Professor in the Department of Recreation and Leisure Studies at Brock University. Her research focuses on using sport and physical activity to promote physical and psychosocial development in youth, postpartum women, and individuals at risk of developing prediabetes within various communities. She collaborates with community organizations to create, implement, and assess impactful programs and initiatives. Additionally, she serves as the director of the Centre for Healthy Youth Development through Sport and has been honored with the 2025 Faculty of Applied Health Sciences Research Excellence Award. Her research interests include positive youth development, life skills, sports and physical activity, and knowledge translation. Dr. Bean is committed to fostering behavior change, especially in relation to physical activity among postpartum women. She is also actively involved in academic networks related to youth research and evaluation and has experience as a Post-doctoral Fellow at the University of British Columbia, following her Doctorate in Philosophy from the University of Ottawa.
