Biography

Cornelia Hett is an Associated Senior Research Scientist at the Centre for Development and Environment (CDE), University of Bern, where she focuses on sustainable land systems and land change sciences. Her research examines patterns and processes at the landscape level, particularly the ecological impacts driven by anthropogenic factors. She investigates the socio-ecological implications of large-scale land acquisitions on rural livelihoods in developing countries. Additionally, her work on agro-biodiversity encompasses the interconnections between people and their environments, as well as the management systems and practices of culturally diverse communities. Cornelia is dedicated to transdisciplinary research methodologies, fostering collaboration among stakeholders to co-produce knowledge that addresses sustainability challenges. She employs spatially explicit analyses utilizing large datasets to explore land resource issues. Cornelia has field experience in several countries including Laos, Kenya, Madagascar, Vietnam, Thailand, Costa Rica, the USA, and Germany.
