Cornelia van Duijn is a Professor of Epidemiology at the University of Oxford's Medical Sciences Division. She plays a leading role in the Oxford Big Data Institute, focusing on large-scale omics studies of neurodegenerative disorders such as Alzheimer's, Parkinson's, and Creutzfeldt–Jakob disease, as well as ophthalmological disorders like glaucoma and age-related macular degeneration. Over the years, she has been a key figure in international consortia, including the European Network for Genetic Genomic Epidemiology (ENGAGE), Cohorts Heart & Aging Research Genome Epidemiology (CHARGE), and the International Genetics Alzheimer's Disease Project (IGAP). Currently, she leads major initiatives such as the Horizon2020 CoSTREAM consortium, which investigates the relationship between stroke and Alzheimer's disease, and the MEMORABEL Gut-Brain consortium, focusing on the gut microbiome's role in Alzheimer's disease pathology. Cornelia's research also includes human proteomics and metabolomics aimed at discovering new Alzheimer's therapies through the Innovative Medicine Initiative (IMI) ADAPTED programme. She is a member of the Royal Netherlands Academy of Arts and Sciences (KNAW) and the Netherlands Council for Medical Sciences (RMW). Cornelia studied Human Nutrition and Mathematical Statistics at the Agricultural University of Wageningen, and Genetics and Epidemiology at Erasmus University Medical School.
