Dr. Cornélie Westermann

Biography

Cornélie Westermann is an Associate Professor at Utrecht University's Faculty of Veterinary Medicine. A veterinarian and a European Specialist in Equine Internal Medicine, she completed her PhD research focusing on equine muscle metabolism and atypical myopathy. Her clinical work is situated within the Department of Equine Sciences, where she provides patient care and engages in clinical teaching. Westermann teaches both Bachelor and Master (Equine) subjects, particularly for Equine Master students. Her research interests include respiratory diseases and muscle diseases, as well as education management. She emphasizes the importance of working dynamics and the optimal fit between individuals and organizational goals to enhance creativity and educational outcomes. Cornélie is recognized for her ability to navigate emergency veterinary situations, continuously seeks knowledge, and is committed to mentoring students throughout their careers. She also plays a crucial role in the European Board of Veterinary Specialisation, focusing on training, examination, and accreditation of veterinary specialists across Europe.
