Biography

Cornelius Wiesener is a tenure-track assistant professor at iCourts, the Danish National Research Foundation Centre of Excellence for International Courts, located at the University of Copenhagen. His research and teaching focus primarily on human rights and international law, with a special emphasis on military operations and questions of national security. Cornelius holds a B.A. in International Relations from Dresden and an LL.M. from NUI Galway, as well as another LL.M. from the European University Institute in Florence. He completed his Ph.D. in 2015 under the supervision of Professor Martin Scheinin, examining the interplay between humanitarian law and human rights law in the context of peace operations, with particular focus on the use of force. Throughout his career, Cornelius has been affiliated with a broad range of institutions, including the Royal Danish Defence College, the Institute for International Law of Peace and Armed Conflict in Bochum, and the Amsterdam Centre for International Law, as well as working with the International Committee of the Red Cross and the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe.
