Biography

Cory McCartan is an Early Career Professor in the Department of Statistics at Penn State University. His research focuses on methodological applied problems in social sciences including elections, legislative redistricting, racial disparities, and missing data. McCartan is Co-Principal Investigator of the Algorithm-Assisted Redistricting Methodology (ALARM) Project at Harvard University. In addition to his research, he develops and maintains a number of open-source R packages related to redistricting, statistical analysis, and visualization. McCartan earned his Ph.D. in Statistics from Harvard University in 2023 and a BA in Mathematics from Grinnell College in 2019. Prior to joining Penn State in 2024, he worked as a Faculty Fellow at the Center for Data Science at New York University.
