Dr. Coskun Kocabas

Biography

Coskun Kocabas completed his BSc in Physics in 2001 and MSc in Physics in 2003 at Bilkent University, Turkey. He earned his PhD in Physics from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign in 2007. After obtaining his PhD, he worked as a Postdoctoral Researcher at Harvard University in the Department of Chemistry and Chemical Biology. From 2009 to 2017, Coskun served as an assistant and associate professor at Bilkent University, leading a group focused on Smart Materials and Devices. His primary research interests lie in optoelectronic applications of graphene and two-dimensional materials, aiming to understand and engineer the electronic and optical responses of emerging 2D materials to fabricate new devices that cannot be realized with conventional semiconducting materials. His work contributes significantly to the field of graphene-based optoelectronics, chemical synthesis of two-dimensional materials, and the fundamental aspects of light-matter interactions.
