Costanza Bonadonna is a Full Professor in the Department of Earth Sciences at the University of Geneva and the Head of the CERG-C Program Assessment Management Geological Climate-Related Risks. In addition to her academic role, she serves as the Dean of the Faculty of Science at the University of Geneva and is the President of the International Association of Volcanology and Chemistry of the Earth's Interior (IAVCEI). She has a robust academic background, having earned her BSc in Geology from the University of Pisa, Italy, and her PhD from the University of Bristol, UK. Prior to joining the University of Geneva, Bonadonna held the prestigious SOEST Young Investigator position at the University of Hawaii and served as an Assistant Professor at the University of South Florida. Her contributions to the field of volcanology have been recognized with several prestigious awards, including the President’s Award from the Geological Society of London in 2001 and the IAVCEI Outstanding Recent Graduate (George Walker Award) in 2004. In 2020, she was selected as a Woman Scientist for the Month by the European Platform of Women Scientists, and she received the XV Edition of the International Galileo Galilei Award from Italian Rotary Clubs for her scientific contributions. Her research focuses on explosive volcanism and volcanic risk, combining field studies, experiments, and numerical modeling to develop innovative methods for determining key eruption source parameters. She aims to enhance ash dispersal forecasting and eruption characterization, advance probabilistic strategies for volcanic hazard assessment, and promote inclusive frameworks for risk assessment and mitigation.
