Biography

Courtney Gardner is an assistant professor of environmental engineering at the University of Texas at Austin. Previously, she was a faculty member in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at Washington State University. Gardner obtained her Ph.D. in Civil and Environmental Engineering from Duke University, focusing on evaluating the contribution of genetically engineered crops to environmental antibiotic resistance in wastewater treatment agricultural systems. She also holds a Master's degree in Civil and Environmental Engineering from Duke University and a Bachelor's degree in Biology from Stetson University. Her research interests lie in using principles of molecular biotechnology and biogeochemistry in environmental engineering to understand and predict how external stressors alter the structure and function of microbial communities in natural and engineered systems.
