Biography

Professor Craig Barclay qualified with a BDS in 1986 from Glasgow and currently serves as a Consultant in Restorative Dentistry at the University Dental Hospital in Manchester. He has an extensive background in education, holding the position of Associate Postgraduate Dean for Specialist Training in the North West Deanery, as well as being the Programme Director for the MSc in Dental Implantology. Professor Barclay has published over 30 refereed papers, authored books, and lectured both nationally and internationally on topics related to restorative dentistry, particularly in relation to head and neck cancer patients and dental implants. He has received several prestigious awards, including the Dentsply Prize and the Schottlander Prize for his research presentations. His research interests are diverse, focusing on quality of life for oral oncology patients, the testing of dental materials, and the development of clinical databases for patient data collection. Furthermore, he has contributed to innovative projects such as the Implant Recognition System and the HOPON study aimed at preventing osteoradionecrosis in irradiated mandibles. Professor Barclay's commitment to education is evident in his extensive teaching experience and the significant use of computer-aided learning techniques within his courses. He holds membership in various professional bodies including the British Society of Prosthetic Dentistry, where he has also served as Past President.
