Craig Buchanan is an Associate Professor in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at Imperial College London. He serves as the Director of the Robotic Additive Manufacturing Lab and leads the Data Centric Engineering programme at the Alan Turing Institute, the UK's data science institute. His research focuses on testing and numerical simulation development, as well as design guidance for conventionally produced 3D printed metallic hollow structural sections. Buchanan is known for his involvement in the MX3D Bridge, which is the world's first metal 3D printed pedestrian bridge. Previously, he has worked as a structural engineer on various projects with Highways England and the London Underground's Crossrail. He is a past winner of several awards, including the Institution of Civil Engineers (ICE) Quest scholarship in 2012 and the Sparkes-Pippard Award in 2015, along with the 2018 Unwin Prize at the Institution of Structural Engineers (IStructE) Young Researchers' Conference. Craig has co-supervised numerous undergraduate and postgraduate research projects and has published peer-reviewed submissions in technical journals and industry publications. He is a graduate member of both ICE and IStructE.
