Biography

Craig Forest joined the George W. Woodruff School of Mechanical Engineering at the Georgia Institute of Technology as an Assistant Professor in August 2008 and was promoted to Professor in 2019. His research program is focused on the creation and application of miniaturized, high-throughput robotic instrumentation to advance biomolecular science. The Precision Biosystems Laboratory, directed by Dr. Forest, operates at the intersection of bioMEMS, machine design, signal processing, optics, and manufacturing. His team has developed instruments to load, manipulate, and measure biological samples at the resolution of single cells, opening new opportunities for essential and comprehensive biological system studies. Research interests include neuroengineering tools, robotics, ultra-high throughput genomics, molecular measurement instrumentation, and 3-D microfabrication bioMEMS technologies. Over the past 4.5 years, developments from his lab have contributed to a new field of intracellular vivo robotics in neuroscience, including innovative technologies for virus detection and personalized drug dosage. Dr. Forest has received multiple awards for outstanding teaching and innovative use of educational technology, including the Georgia Tech Class of 1940 W. Roane Beard Outstanding Teacher Award in 2013 and the Lockheed-Martin Dean's Excellence Teaching Award in 2012.
