Dr. Craig Hardiman

Biography

Craig Hardiman is an Associate Professor in Classical Studies at the University of Waterloo. His research focuses on Hellenistic Sculpture, Aesthetics, and Greek and Roman Art, particularly from the Hellenistic period (323-31 BCE). He examines the kinds of sculptures, paintings, and mosaics that adorned domestic spaces and interests in ancient aesthetic theory. In addition, he explores how modern neuroscience might contribute to our understanding of ancient art. Hardiman teaches a wide variety of courses, including introductory and graduate-level seminars on Hellenistic Art and Greek and Roman Science and Technology. He supervises graduate students in topics ranging from Bronze Age Delos to Gandharan Sculpture and Network Analysis, welcoming new students in allied fields. His administrative contributions include serving as a graduate coordinator and as a member of the Board of Directors at the Faculty Association, focusing on mental health issues affecting students and faculty.
