Biography

Craig Maynes is an Associate Professor (Teaching) in the Department of Classics and Religion at the University of Calgary. He earned his BA (Hons) in Classics from the University of Alberta in 1997, and subsequently completed his MA and PhD in Classics at the University of Toronto in 2000 and 2007, respectively. His research interests focus on Latin language and literature, particularly elegy and comedy, as well as Roman history and the reception of the Roman world. Maynes has taught various courses including Latin at multiple levels and thematic courses on Hellenistic Roman culture. He has been recognized for his teaching excellence through the Teaching Excellence Award from the Students' Union at the University of Calgary in 2020. His publications include contributions to major works on Roman society and culture, with a notable paper titled "Comic Callimacheanism in Catullus 67" published in the Transactions of the American Philological Association.
