Professor Melville graduated from the University of Glasgow with a BSc (Hons) in 1990 and an MBChB in 1993. He completed his higher specialist training in General Adult Psychiatry and Learning Disabilities Psychiatry in 2003, and he earned a higher degree (MD) from the University of Glasgow in 2010. Currently, he serves as a Professor of Neurodevelopmental Psychiatry in the School of Health and Wellbeing, part of the College of Medicine, Veterinary and Life Sciences. From 2014 to 2015, he worked as a PGR convener, helping early- to mid-career researchers develop their research skills. Since 2003, he has been a consultant psychiatrist with NHS Greater Glasgow Clyde, focusing on diagnosing mental health and neurodevelopmental conditions such as Autism Spectrum Disorder and ADHD. His research interests include the diagnosis and management of mental health conditions, integrating psychological therapies with medication and lifestyle approaches, and developing accessible and effective psychological therapies for adults with mental health conditions co-existing with neurodevelopmental issues. Additionally, he has received various grants for projects aimed at improving health outcomes for individuals with learning disabilities.
