Biography

Craig Tovey is a professor at the H. Milton Stewart School of Industrial and Systems Engineering at Georgia Tech and co-directs the Center for Biologically Inspired Design. His primary research focuses on operations research and its interdisciplinary applications to social and natural systems, particularly emphasizing sustainability, environment, and energy. His current work involves inverse optimization related to electric grid management and classical biomimetic algorithms related to robotics and the behavior of animal groups. Tovey has received numerous accolades including the Presidential Young Investigator Award in 1985, the Jacob Wolfowitz Prize in 1989, and the Class of 1934 Outstanding Interdisciplinary Activity Award in 2011. He was recognized with the ACM Special Interest Group on Electronic Commerce Test Time Award in 2016 for his co-authored paper on election control and was a recipient of the Golden Goose Award for his contribution to the development of the Honey Bee Algorithm for optimizing web server allocation.
