Professor Dr. Craig Townsend

Biography

Craig Townsend is an Associate Professor and Chair at the Department of Geography, Planning and Environment at Concordia University. His current research focuses on the changes affecting the suburbs of Canada's large metropolitan areas and the impacts of legislated protections for non-urban land amid urban growth. He has a particular interest in public transportation infrastructure and its links to urban form. Over the years, he has conducted studies on urban transport infrastructure across various countries, including Australia, Canada, Malaysia, Singapore, Thailand, and India. His work addresses important aspects of urban planning and development, particularly in the context of the developing world. Having supervised numerous graduate students in Geography and Urban Environmental Studies, he also teaches courses related to urban transportation and public infrastructure finance. His publications reflect his expertise in urban planning and transportation policy, emphasizing the need for sustainable solutions in rapidly growing urban environments.
