Dr. Cristian Badea

Biography

Cristian Tudorel Badea is a Professor of Radiology at the Duke Cancer Institute and a Research Professor of Biomedical Engineering in the Pratt School of Engineering. His research focuses on advancing quantitative imaging, particularly through the design of novel computed tomography (CT) systems and reconstruction algorithms. Badea's current work includes spectral CT, utilizing dual-energy photon-counting techniques, and developing nanoparticle contrast agents for theranostics. He is heavily involved in challenging applications such as intracranial aneurysm assessments, cardiac imaging, and perfusion imaging, employing modern reconstruction techniques and deep learning. Additionally, he leads co-clinical cancer imaging efforts, serving as the principal investigator for the Duke Preclinical Research Resources for Quantitative Imaging Biomarkers initiative, part of the NCI Co-Clinical Imaging Research Program. His interdisciplinary work aims to build a virtual preclinical photon-counting CT platform to advance cancer research through accelerated method development and translation.
