Biography

Cristian O’Flaherty is a Professor in the Department of Surgery (Urology Division) at McGill University and a medical scientist at the Research Institute of the McGill University Health Centre. He is also an associate member of the Departments of Pharmacology and Therapeutics, Anatomy and Cell Biology, and Experimental Medicine at McGill University. O'Flaherty served as Co-Director of the McGill Centre for Research in Reproduction and Development from 2018 to 2021 and is an associate editor for several journals, including Andrology and Human Reproduction. He has a background in biology and reproduction, holding D.V.M. and Ph.D. degrees in animal physiology and biochemistry from the University of Buenos Aires, Argentina. After completing postdoctoral studies in sperm physiology and toxicology in the Urology Division, he has since focused his research on male reproduction, specifically on the molecular mechanisms involved in the production and function of healthy spermatozoa. His work utilizes mouse models and human spermatozoa to uncover the role of reactive oxygen species and antioxidant enzymes in regulating sperm function. O'Flaherty’s dedication is to developing novel diagnostic and therapeutic strategies for male infertility.
