Biography

Cristina Banks-Leite focuses on biodiversity change and the factors leading to species losses, as well as initiatives driving biodiversity gains. Over the past 25 years, her CALE lab has investigated the influence of habitat loss and fragmentation on biodiversity, particularly in tropical regions. The results of this research have been used to inform environmental policy in Brazil and Costa Rica. Her current research is focused on understanding the biogeographical factors that influence species responses to habitat transformation. Additionally, she collaborates with restoration companies to develop new approaches for monitoring, measuring, and accounting for biodiversity gains.
