Biography

Cristina Urchueguía is a Professor of Historical Musicology at the University of Bern since 2012 and has served as Co-Director of the Faculty of Philosophy and History. She has been a prominent figure in musicology, currently holding the position of General Secretary of the International Musicological Society since 2019 and Vice President of the Swiss Academy of Humanities and Social Sciences since 2018. Urchueguía has extensive academic experience, having worked as an Assistant Professor at the University of Bern from 2010 to 2015 and previously as a researcher at various institutions, including the University of Zurich and the Göttingen Bach Institute. Her research interests encompass the history of polyphony up to 1600 and the German-speaking music theater prior to 1800. She received her doctorate from the University of Würzburg, where she focused on the multi-voiced mass in the Golden Age, with particular emphasis on sources of Spanish and Portuguese provenance. Urchueguía's educational background includes a Master’s degree in Musicology from the University of Würzburg and piano diploma from the Conservatorio Superior de Música de Valencia.
