Biography

Cristopher Moen is a Senior Lecturer and Director of the Master of Science in Civil Engineering program in the Department of Civil and Systems Engineering. His research focuses on mechanics simulation, ductile and brittle materials, behavior and performance of thin-walled structures, system reliability, and civil infrastructure. Moen is a licensed professional engineer and has made significant contributions to the field, particularly during his PhD, which studied the behavior and design of thin-walled steel structures with perforations. His work is widely referenced, including in the industry standards of the American Iron and Steel Institute for the North American Specification for the Design of Cold-Formed Steel Members. His practical experience includes involvement in significant bridge projects, such as the design and construction of the Woodrow Wilson Bridge's main spans, moveable spans, and V-piers. Moen completed his Bachelor’s and Master’s in Civil Engineering at the University of Virginia, and earned his PhD in Civil Engineering from Johns Hopkins University in 2008.
