I grew up in the Caribbean Island of St. Lucia and became fascinated with the biological sciences from a young age. This passion led me to pursue an undergraduate degree in biochemistry and molecular biology at the University of Toronto. After a brief stint in Fisheries biology, I obtained a master’s degree from the University of Nottingham before returning to Canada for a Ph.D. at the University of Waterloo under Professor John Honek, focusing on antibacterial activity and resistance mechanisms for thiopeptide antibiotics. Subsequently, I joined Professor Eric Brown’s lab at McMaster University as a postdoctoral fellow, studying enzymes that degrade bacterial cell wall glycopolymers, while also exploring chemical genetics to understand antimicrobial actions. I transitioned to the biotech sector at Venatorx Pharmaceuticals, leading pre-clinical antibiotic discovery efforts. I joined the University of Guelph's Department of Molecular and Cellular Biology in summer 2024, where my lab investigates bacterial envelope biology, antimicrobial resistance, and bacterial pathogenicity.
