Dr. Curt Hagquist

Biography

Curt Hagquist is a Professor of Public Health at the University of Gothenburg, where he has been engaged since October 2020. He holds an honorary appointment at the Kids Research Institute in Australia. His research interests primarily focus on adolescent mental health, particularly the impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic, epidemiology, Rasch Measurement Theory, and social determinants of health. He earned his PhD in Social Work from the University of Gothenburg in 1997, with a dissertation examining the living conditions of young people in Sweden during the crisis of the 1990s. Over the years, Hagquist has engaged in several international collaborations, including being a member of the Coordinating Committee for an international study on Health Behaviours among School-aged Children and has served as an expert for UNESCO's Inclusive Policy Lab. As an educator, he teaches courses related to Rasch Measurement Theory and has supervised multiple PhD students. His extensive experience includes leadership roles in significant research initiatives concerning child and adolescent mental health, funded by agencies such as NordForsk and the Swedish Research Council, demonstrating a commitment to improving the understanding and conditions of youth mental health both in Sweden and internationally.
