Dr. Cynthia Arslanian Engoren

Biography

Cynthia Arslanian-Engoren is a professor at the University of Michigan School of Nursing, where she also serves as the Associate Dean for Faculty Affairs and Faculty Development. With a deep expertise in decision-making among nurses, she has conducted extensive research focusing on women's heart disease, particularly disparities in treatment seeking for acute myocardial infarction. Her work includes the development of the Nurses' Cardiac Triage Instrument, which emphasizes an unbiased approach in patient evaluation. Arslanian-Engoren's research also centers around cardiovascular risk factors, self-care management, and cognitive training interventions for elderly patients with heart failure. She has published in prominent journals such as the American Journal of Cardiology and Nursing Research, while also being involved in teaching and mentoring nursing students. Her dedication to education and innovation in clinical decision-making has been recognized through numerous awards, including the Pioneering Spirit Award from the American Association of Critical-Care Nurses in 2024 and the Provost's Teaching Innovation Prize in 2015.
