Dr. Cynthia Coles

Biography

Cynthia Coles is an Associate Professor in the Department of Civil Engineering at Memorial University of Newfoundland, specializing in Environmental Engineering and Water Resources. Dr. Coles teaches courses focusing on environmental engineering and renewable energy. She obtained her Bachelor of Engineering (B.Eng.) in Civil Engineering, a Master of Engineering (M.Eng.) in Water Resources, and a Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) in Geo-environmental Engineering, all from McGill University. Her professional experience includes supervising construction projects such as the Sierra Leone water supply scheme and working on the C.A.R.E. Feeder Road's project. Her research interests span various topics in environmental engineering, including metal interactions in soils and sediments, speciation, pH effects, adsorption kinetics, isotherms, and the distribution and removal of arsenic and mercury in groundwater. She strives to make significant contributions to the field through her teaching and research.
