Cynthia Hanawalt is the Director of the Sabin Center’s Climate Business Law practice, where her work supports regulatory policy responses to climate-related financial risk at both the federal and state levels. Prior to joining the Sabin Center, she served as the Chief of the Investor Protection Bureau at the New York State Office of the Attorney General, where her leadership resulted in the recovery of $850 million on behalf of New York investors and groundbreaking outcomes in electronic trading and cryptocurrency cases. Previously, she was a litigation partner at Bleichmar Fonti & Auld LLP. Cynthia serves as a Trustee and Chair of the Audit Committee for Wave Hill, a public garden and cultural center located in the Bronx. She is a graduate of Columbia Law School, where she was a Harlan Fiske Stone Scholar, and also received the William J. Griffith University Service Award while studying at Duke University.
