Biography

Cynthia Sung is an Associate Professor at the University of Pennsylvania, with appointments in the Department of Mechanical Engineering and Applied Mechanics (MEAM) and secondary faculty in the Departments of Computer and Information Science (CIS) and Electrical and Systems Engineering (ESE). She completed her Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering and Computer Science at MIT in 2016, under the supervision of Professor Daniela Rus. Her work aims to democratize robot design processes and make robotic systems more accessible to non-experts. In addition, she leads the Sung Robotics Lab and works on projects such as the Build-a-Bot initiative and an origami-inspired swimming robot. Through her contributions, she inspires increased participation of girls in engineering and robotics, reflecting her commitment to education and outreach in STEM fields.
