Biography

Professor Mody is a historian of recent science and technology, specifically applied physical sciences in the United States. His research focuses on the commercialization of academic research and spans from the long durée of responsible research and innovation (RRI) to technopolitics and resource scarcity that began in the 1970s. Currently, Prof. Mody serves as the principal investigator for an NWO Vici grant titled 'Managing Scarcity Sustainability: Oil Industry, Environmentalism, Alternative Energy Age Scarcity,' which runs from 2020 to 2025. His team includes Odinn Melsted (postdoc), Michiel Bron (PhD candidate on oil and nuclear energy), and Jelena Stankovic (PhD candidate on oil and solar energy). Additionally, he is the co-PI on an ERC Synergy grant called 'Nanobubbles,' collaborating with colleagues to understand why scientific records often ignore contradictory evidence, fostering healthier scientific dialogues around contentious issues. His expertise includes history and sociology of recent science and technology, the commercialization of academic research, microelectronics, and the energy humanities.
