Biography

Cyrus Shahabi is a Professor at the Ming Hsieh Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering and the Thomas Lord Department of Computer Science at the University of Southern California's Viterbi School of Engineering. He directs the Integrated Media Systems Center and has extensive research and industry experience, having co-founded Geosemble Technologies and ClearPath, focusing on predictive path-planning systems. He earned his Bachelor's degree in Computer Engineering from Sharif University of Technology in 1989, followed by a Master's and Doctoral degree in Computer Science from the University of Southern California. He has authored over a hundred research papers and holds more than 12 patents. His research interests include databases, spatial databases, multimedia databases, and geospatial information systems. He has received numerous accolades including the ACM Distinguished Scientist Award and the NSF CAREER Award.
