Professor Dr. Da Kistemaker

Biography

DA Kistemaker is an Assistant Professor at Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam in the Faculty of Behavioural and Movement Sciences, specializing in Biomechanics. His research focuses on control, mechanics, and energetics of human movement, utilizing experimental data combined with predictions and analyses from (neuro-)musculoskeletal models that mimic the essential properties of the actual musculoskeletal system. These models are derived from both in vitro and in vivo experiments, as well as cadaver studies on mammalian musculoskeletal systems. He employs optimal control techniques, such as Direct Collocation and Sparse Non-linear Optimization, to derive model-based predictions. Currently, Dr. Kistemaker aims to understand the relationship between muscle mechanics and muscle energetics within the context of human locomotion, and he also investigates the control mechanisms that underlie human movement. The applications of his research extend to optimizing equipment for sports rehabilitation contexts.
