Biography

Daan Bossuyt is an Assistant Professor at Utrecht University in the Department of Human Geography and Spatial Planning. His research focuses on the relationship between politics and urban development, with particular interests in sustainability, forms of housing, land use, and housing policy. He completed his PhD at the University of Amsterdam on self-build housing and has been involved as a PhD researcher in the BESEFOGO project financed by NWO, which concentrates on sustainable urban development for self-build initiatives in the Netherlands and Brazil. Daan has also worked as a postdoctoral researcher in the Management of the Built Environment at TU Delft, where he conducted research in the Netherlands, Sweden, and Brazil. His work has been published in prominent academic journals such as Environment and Planning C, Housing Theory and Society, Land Use Policy, and Housing Studies. Currently, he is leading a project concerning the role of digital platforms in Amsterdam's housing market. Daan coordinates the Planning Studio, a practice-oriented course for second-year students, fostering community-engaged learning through collaborations with municipalities and local organizations. He teaches Planning Theory and Mixed Methods Research at both Master's and Bachelor's levels.
