Biography

Dafna Zur is an Associate Professor in the Department of East Asian Languages and Cultures at Stanford University, where she also holds a courtesy appointment in Comparative Literature. Her teaching and research focus on Korean literature, cinema, and popular culture. She published the book, 'Figuring Korean Futures: Children’s Literature in Modern Korea' (Stanford University Press, 2017), which explores the affective investments and aspirations manifested in children’s literature during colonial and postcolonial Korea. Dr. Zur is currently working on a project that examines moral education in postwar North and South Korean literary youth magazines. Her scholarly work includes articles on North Korean science fiction, the Korean War, childhood cinema, and various aspects of Korean popular culture. She has contributed translations of Korean fiction to several prominent venues, including wordwithoutborders.org and the Columbia Anthology of Modern Korean Short Stories.
