Biography

Dag Sehlin is a Professor in the Department of Public Health and Caring Sciences, specializing in Molecular Geriatrics at Uppsala University. His research focuses on understanding the molecular mechanisms of Alzheimer's disease, employing novel therapeutic and diagnostic applications. His group has pioneered the generation of antibodies that selectively bind to forms of amyloid-beta, which are utilized for both therapeutic and diagnostic purposes. Notably, he has developed bispecific antibodies that leverage a 'Molecular Trojan horse' strategy to deliver therapeutic agents across the blood-brain barrier efficiently, contributing to advancement in antibody-based PET imaging of brain targets. Dag received his PhD in 2010 through a collaborative project between Uppsala University and BioArctic AB, leading to the development of the lecanemab antibody, which has gained approval for Alzheimer's treatment. He has completed postdoctoral work focusing on strategies for delivering protein drugs to the brain and has achieved recognition from the Swedish Lundbeck Foundation and the Swedish Alzheimer Foundation for his contributions. Appointed an Associate Professor in 2018 and becoming a full Professor in 2025, Dag has authored approximately 80 scientific articles and holds patents related to antibody engineering for increased brain penetration.
