Biography

Dagmar Budikova is a professor of Geography and the Dean of the College of Arts, Sciences, and Letters at the University of Michigan-Dearborn. She received her Bachelor of Science degree in Environmental Science with honors from the University of Toronto in 1996 and completed her Doctor of Philosophy in Geography at the University of Calgary in 2001. Budikova joined the University of Michigan-Dearborn as an Assistant Professor of Geography in 2000 and was promoted to Associate Professor in 2006 and to Professor in 2011. Additionally, she served as the Department Chair of Geography, Geology, and Environment from 2015 to 2023 and as the Associate Dean of Personnel and Budget Planning for the College of Arts and Sciences from 2011 to 2015. Her research focuses on environmental geoscience, particularly physical geography, climatology, and hydroclimatology, with an emphasis on understanding natural climate variability and long-term climate change. Budikova founded the Institute of Geospatial Analysis & Mapping (GEOMAP) in 2007, where she served as Director, promoting research efforts in geospatial sciences and providing research opportunities for students. She has published extensively in reputable journals and is involved in teaching courses related to Weather, Climate, Statistics, and Geographic Information Systems.
