Biography

Dai Lu operates a medicinal chemistry laboratory focused on the interface of organic chemistry and pharmaceutical sciences. His research is dedicated to discovering potential therapeutics for treating cancer, neurodegenerative diseases, and disorders associated with the endocannabinoid system, managing pain, drug addiction, and obesity. Current projects include the synthesis of water-soluble analogs of natural products, cannabinoid ligands including agonists and inverse agonists, and novel protein kinase inhibitors. Dai's laboratory aims to fabricate multi-drug-loaded nanoparticles to combat pancreatic cancer, with research supported by the National Institutes of Health and the State of Texas. His contributions to medicinal chemistry involve the discovery of intrinsically fluorescent ligands for G-protein-coupled receptors CB1 and CB2, selective CB2 receptor agonists, and a new class of protein kinase inhibitors, including the clinical drug candidate Buagafuran.
