Biography

Daigengna Duoer is a historian specializing in the religion of modern East Inner Asia, with a particular focus on transnational Tibeto-Mongolian Buddhism in the twentieth century. He serves as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Religion at Boston University, teaching classes on Buddhism and Asian religions. He earned his Ph.D. in Religious Studies from the University of California, Santa Barbara, and an M.A. in Buddhist Studies from the University of Toronto. His forthcoming book, 'Buddhism Nation Empire: Transnational Buddhists Modern East Inner Asia,' investigates the roles of Buddhism in the competing nation and empire-building projects that occurred in early 20th century Inner Mongolia and Manchuria, areas impacted by the expansionist ambitions of Republican China, the Japanese Empire, and the Soviet Union. His research has received support from several organizations, including the Canadian Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council (SSHRC) and the American Council of Learned Societies (ACLS). In addition to the study of religion, Daigengna is interested in the study of religion and game media, being a founder of the GAMING+ Project, an online resource for game studies.
