Biography

Dr. Dake Qi is an Assistant Professor in the Division of BioMedical Sciences at the Faculty of Medicine, Memorial University of Newfoundland. He holds both a Master of Science and a PhD in Pharmaceutical Sciences from the University of British Columbia. His research focuses on cardiometabolic diseases with a specific emphasis on pro-inflammatory factors and their effects on cardiac metabolism during ischemia-reperfusion injury. Dr. Qi's studies investigate the role of macrophage migration inhibitory factor (MIF) in regulating metabolic responses to stress and contributing to the pathogenesis of ischemic heart disease. He also explores how MIF influences insulin resistance, associated with obesity and metabolic syndrome. His publication record includes numerous influential papers in peer-reviewed journals, outlining the molecular mechanisms by which MIF can facilitate cardiac recovery following an ischemic event. Through his work, Dr. Qi aims to enhance understanding of cardiac metabolism and improve interventions for heart disease patients.
