Biography

Dallas Hunt is Cree and a member of Wapsewsipi (Swan River Nation), Treaty 8 territory in Northern Alberta. He is an Assistant Professor in the Department of English Language and Literatures at the University of British Columbia, with an affiliation to the UBC Centre for Climate Justice. His scholarly work focuses on Indigenous literatures, decolonial narratives, and the politics of settler colonialism, aiming to challenge colonial historiographies while amplifying the resilience and complexity of Indigenous voices across North America. His critical and creative works have been published in various reputable journals including Theory & Event, American Indian Culture Research Journal, and Canadian Literature. Hunt's teaching and research interests encompass Indigenous literatures, Indigenous theory and politics, Canadian literature, speculative fiction, and environmental justice. He has authored a children's book titled 'Awâsis World-Famous Bannock' published in 2018, and his poetry collection 'CREELAND' was published in 2021. His newest book, 'Teeth', is set to release in Spring 2024. Current research projects include studies on urban Indigeneity, settler colonialism, small Indigenous publishing houses, and Indigenous futurities, among others.
