Biography

Damon Teagle is a Professor of Geochemistry at the School of Ocean and Earth Science, National Oceanography Centre Southampton, University of Southampton. He has a wide-ranging interest in fluid-rock interactions, processes of ore mineralisation, and global geochemical cycles and tectonics. An expert in hydrothermal alteration of ocean crust and ophiolites, he has been involved with the University of Southampton since the inception of the Southampton Marine and Maritime Institute (SMMI) in 2012, serving as its Director since 2018. His recent research focuses on decarbonisation of ships, ports, and maritime operations through various approaches, including wind assistance, new fuels, electrification, carbon capture storage, and optimization of autonomous systems. Teagle is accepting applications for PhD students and is keen to mentor strong researchers interested in fluid-rock interactions, carbon dioxide reduction, and enhanced weathering.
