Biography

Dan McDermott is a Lecturer at Penn Carey Law with significant experience in strategic communications, particularly in shareholder activism and corporate governance. He joined the Special Situations Group of ICR in 2018, where he develops and executes communications plans for clients related to various financial contexts including mergers, acquisitions, and regulatory investigations. Before joining ICR, Dan was part of Involved Consulting, a boutique advisory firm dedicated to shareholder activism, advising activist hedge funds as well as issuers. Involved in significant proxy contests and corporate governance issues, he previously served as a Senior Analyst at Institutional Shareholder Services (ISS), where he evaluated and made recommendations on strategic financial implications of proxy contests and corporate governance proposals. Dan holds a B.A. in Political Science from Fordham University and an M.B.A. in Finance from Johns Hopkins University. Additionally, he has earned a Fundamentals of Sustainability Accounting (FSA) Certification from the Sustainable Accounting Standards Board (SASB).
